Breakfast Cookies
I wanted to get this recipe up here because I love it so much! It turned out awesome. When I shared it in my IG stories, so many of you wanted to know how I made them.
My Story
I knew from the beginning of my career search way back in high school that I wanted to work in healthcare. As cliché as it sounds, I wanted to help people. I have (and currently do) work in a hospital helping patients by getting diagnostic images that are needed to get them the care they need. And now I also get to help moms exercise and move throughout pregnancy, rebuild and restore core strength postpartum, and continue to build strength and live a healthy lifestyle all throughout parenthood.
Homemade Granola Recipe
Have you ever made your own granola before? I think you should definitely try.
Many store bought granola are so full of sugar that you might as well just be topping your yogurt with candy.
When is the last time that you had a weekend to yourself, mama?
80% of moms who responded either don’t remember, or have not had a weekend away since before becoming a parent! This is why I am co-hosting a Moms Retreat in Kananaskis. You deserve a break. As moms, we do SO much. I know you know how hard it is. The day-to-day grind, the mental load, lack of sleep, no time for yourself…. Let’s change that.
June 2 - 4, 2023 Join us for a weekend of no children, no cooking, no cleaning, no tantrums, no toddler arguments. Just moms connecting, relaxing, socializing, moving our bodies, eating great food and drinking delicious drinks. The Nordic Spa is the perfect place to unwind and disconnect from parenthood for a little bit.
I love a good smoothie in the morning
Smoothies can be such a nutritious, quick and easy breakfast option, and I reach for them often for those very reasons. But not all smoothies are created equal! Some are so full of sugar that all they are leaving you with is a glucose spike and hunger pangs soon after. The key is to make sure your ingredients are balanced - meaning you have some carbs, protein, and fats in there too.
New Recipe: Picco de Gallo
It’s that weird time between Christmas and New Years where no one knows what day it is, where they are supposed to be, or what’s going on! Some of us still might be in a turkey leftovers coma, finishing up the last of the Christmas baking, or maybe back to your regular scheduled eating habits. Where ever you are on the spectrum, I hope you are comfortable and satisfied.
Some of you might be preparing to attend a New Years Eve party, so I thought this might be a good time to share one of my favorite recipes. It is so fresh and flavourful!
Years ago when I was pregnant with my first child, my husband and I went to a couples cooking class. It was so much fun, highly recommend! This one was Mexican themed. We made shrimp ceviche (none for me since a) I was pregnant and b) raw grosses me out), Picco de Gallo, pork tacos, and a flan for dessert. I have changed the picco recipe from its original to suit my tastes better. Here it is!
You Know It’s Coming, Get Ready
Right now, most of us are probably deep in the holiday festivities! Parties, dinners, shopping, wrapping, baking, you know the drill. Where I live, this is the last week of school before Christmas break. So that means 5 days of “themes” at school (as if we don’t have enough to think about right now!) But it’s for the kids, you know, making memories and all that. Today is flannel, tomorrow is red and green, and that’s as far ahead as I have looked at this point.
Anyways, at this time of year, many of us are probably gathering with family and gearing up for traditions and favorite foods that only happen once a year.
And you know what's lingering in the background, waiting to pounce and make you feel guilty for trying to enjoy any of it?
Diet Culture.
How To Fix Your Posture
Something I hear so much from people is their desire to improve their posture. I’ve heard it so much that I am almost 100% sure that you have said something along those lines before as well. You know what I’m talking about, right? We consider “bad posture” to be kind of a rounded back, shoulders slumped forwards, head jutting our forwards. And most of us think of “perfect posture” as sitting up straight, shoulders rolled back, long outstretched neck. Sound about right?
Well, what if I told you there is no such thing as a “perfect posture?” Even though we all have a picture of what perfect posture is, it doesn’t mean that it is right for your body.
How do your push ups measure up?
A common goal that so many moms I work with and talk to is to be able to do a push up. A real, full push up from their toes on the ground. Even before having children, many women felt that they were lacking the upper body strength to be able to do one properly. Then you add in a pregnancy or two (or three or four…) and you may be feeling like you are even farther away from that goal now. So many moms tell me they feel like they have “no core” or their core is so weak now.
Recipe: Protein Cheesecake Cups
I shared these protein cheesecake cups in my stories a few weeks back and you guys went nuts for them! They are delicious and a great option for a “healthier” dessert. Instead of cream cheese, I use whipped cottage cheese. The berry sauce is my berry chia jam recipe, and then there are graham cracker crumbs at the very bottom, and sprinkled on top too! I hope you give it a try and let me know what you think!
Do you feel this shift?
Basically, pre-pandemic, a lot of people’s fitness goals were related to body change. Weight loss, building a bikini body, getting a 6-pack, etc. But now, there is a lot more talk about deep health. About feeling better, about moving for your health vs just aesthetics. In more stressful times like everyone has experienced and/or is currently experiencing, we are noticing how important it is to prioritize things like consistency, rest, recovery, stress management, and sleep. More and more people just want to get through the day or week or month without feeling completely overwhelmed and exhausted with all the stress that life brings!
Recipe: Egg Bites
As my previous post explained, I only really meal prep breakfasts. One of my DNCs (daily nutritional commitments - more on that another day) is to eat 1-2 servings of protein at breakfast. These egg bites are probably the recipe I reach for the most often when decided what my breakfasts will be for the upcoming week. I usually warm up two of them and enjoy with a piece of toast or a green smoothie.
They are simple, delicious, nutritious, and so easily customized to your preferences.
Meal Planning and Prepping
Welcome to my corner of the internet where things might be a bit complicated, a little messy, but always REAL. There are already more then enough people faking it on the internet, and that is something you will never see me do.
Today I want to talk about meal planning and prepping. I’m going to start out by saying I am not a fan of prepping a whole bunch of meals for the week every Sunday. That doesn’t work for me. I do not enjoy eating the same things over and over, I like variety with my food.
